Youth Work Ireland Cork Celebrate Safer Internet Day 2016.

Safer Internet Day 2016 takes place on Tuesday the 9th of February. Safer Internet Day is an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. It is promoted in Ireland by the PDST Technology in Education and Webwise Ireland and will be celebrated in Ireland on Tuesday 9th February 2016.

The call to action for Safer Internet Day 2016 is; “Play your part for a better internet” and the hashtags are #SID2016 and #Up2Us. Explore their site for ideas, information and inspiration on how to get involved.

For the last few weeks, our school group from Scoil Padre Pio (Churchfield) have been coming to Youth Work Ireland Cork to work on an Internet Poster campaign. They have been taken part in numerous Internet workshops including, Cyber Bullying, Private VS Public: What information to put online, How to respond to getting hurtful messages and much more. When finished, the young people will display their posters in the school and in the youth project.
Also as part of Safer Internet Day, YWIC will be giving Internet Safety presentations to different groups including some of the 4th year students of Gaelscoil Mhuire (AG) as part of YWIC’s Mind Your Head programme. Mind Your Head is a Mental Health & Wellbeing programme which was created in partnership with the HSE Health Action Zone (HAZ). It is delivered to different groups & schools in the locality.
