Youth Work Ireland Cork are the County winners of the National Lottery Good Causes Awards 2019!


We are delighted to announce that Youth Work Ireland Cork are the County winners of the National Lottery Good Causes Awards 2019!

Dermot Griffin, Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery was very pleased that YWIC won and stated;

“We are delighted that you took the time to apply in the Youth category for the National Lottery Good Causes Awards 2019 on behalf of Churchfield-Gurranabraher Youth Development Project – Youth Work Ireland Cork. The number of entries across the country was incredible and it gave the judging panel a really tough job. However, they were really impressed with your entry. Being named a Cork County winner is a true testament to the quality of your entry and a reflection of all the good work you do.”

Eleanor O Sullivan is CEO & Director of Services at Youth Work Ireland Cork. Eleanor explained that “What we have to offer here, in the youth centre, is a variety of services that appeals to young people and therefore gives them the opportunity to participate and develop their interest & skills. By being a member of Youth Work Ireland Cork, Young People have more choices and opportunities.

This award is a great boost for the morale of the Staff, Young People & the local community of Gurranabraher & Churchfield as it highlights the work that is happening on the ground.”

Youth Work Ireland Cork is managed by a voluntary Board of Directors. Dr Eileen Hogan from the School of Appleid Social Studies in UCC is a Director on the board. Eileen explained that it was Fantastic News, “it was no surprise to us how deserving you [YWIC] are of this award but the formal recognition is very welcome”

The The National Lottery primary aim is to raise funding for good causes, helping make a difference to communities, projects and individuals in the areas of Youth, Sports, Recreation, Amenities, Health, Welfare, Arts, Culture, National Heritage and the Irish Language. Dermot Griffen closed by stating, “Congratulations once again and keep up the great work … you are the epitome of what the National Lottery Good Causes is all about!”
